IBIS Bencoolen – Singapore

Back to Singapore! Back to one of my favourite hotels in Singapore, the IBIS Bencoolen. No real surprise, since all the IBIS rooms look pretty much the same. But I have finally given up looking for a cheaper room in Singapore (specially during Formula 1 race days), since I have never really been successful in finding a better alternative at a decent price. So, as long as service and rooms do not change, I will be back at the IBIS for short and for longer trips. I still love the location, as it is conveniently located at several MRT stations and it is even possible to walk to the major sites. Plenty of restaurants are also right next to the hotel. On this past visit, I even found out that the IBIS has several washers and dryers available (besides just handing it to the hotel staff). The only downside of the hotel is really it’s guests since most of them slam the room doors, specially at night. For the first time in years, I had to use ear plugs for several nights where large families from India were in the rooms down the hall and the noise they produced was just unbearable. Room cleaning (at least during my stay) happens VERY late in the day. No matter if you hang the „come in“ sign outside your door or not, they will do one room after another and it takes all day. Usually I was at the end of their tour, which is a bit of of a nuisance if you come back after a full day in the heat and humidity and your room is still not serviced and the wet towels from the morning are still on the floor waiting to be changed. It’s a small room and small bathroom with no thrills, but it is clean! Another positive thing is that the tab water is drinkable and thus saves many plastic bottles!

In my own rating system I would rate the IBIS Bencoolen as follows:
